Who is this program for

An open work permit may be available to certain categories of people, depending on their circumstances and IRCC’s eligibility criteria. This includes certain eligible spouses or common-law partners of foreign workers. Under the general measure applicable to certain workers, eligibility may depend on the worker’s occupational TEER category, the remaining validity of their work authorization and any applicable exceptions. Certain spouses or common-law partners of international students may also be eligible, including when the student is enrolled in a master’s degree program of at least 16 months, a doctoral degree program or certain eligible programs. Other categories of people may also qualify for an open work permit depending on their circumstances. Always consult IRCC’s official criteria to determine which category applies.

Have legal status in Canada (if applying from within)
