Express Entry Canada 2026
Express Entry is a federal pathway to permanent residence for eligible skilled workers. Candidates who meet a program’s requirements may create a profile and enter the pool; an invitation is not guaranteed.

Express Entry Programs
Three federal programs are managed through Express Entry. Each has its own eligibility criteria.
Federal Skilled Worker (FSW)
For skilled professionals with foreign work experience.
- At least 1 year of skilled work experience (TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3)
- Language level CLB 7 minimum (French or English)
- Minimum high school education (ECA required)
- Minimum score of 67/100 on FSW grid
Ideal for: Professionals with foreign experience
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
For those who have already worked in Canada.
- At least 1 year of Canadian work experience (last 3 years)
- Skilled employment (TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3)
- CLB 7 for TEER 0/1, CLB 5 for TEER 2/3
- No formal education requirement
Ideal for: Workers or graduates in Canada
Federal Skilled Trades (FSTP)
For qualified tradespeople.
- At least 2 years experience in a skilled trade
- Job offer or Canadian qualification certificate
- CLB 5 for speaking, CLB 4 for writing
- Trade in groups 72, 73, 82, 92, or certain 632, 633
Ideal for: Electricians, plumbers, welders, etc.
Understanding the CRS Score
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores your profile out of 1,200 points. Higher scores receive Invitations to Apply (ITA) first.

Improving language results can increase core CRS points and may affect skill-transferability points. The exact change depends on your full profile.
Get Canadian Education
An eligible Canadian post-secondary credential may add 15 or 30 additional points, depending on the credential and IRCC rules.
Gain Canadian Experience
Eligible Canadian work experience may add CRS points and may help meet Canadian Experience Class requirements.
Provincial Nomination
An eligible provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points. Invitations still depend on the applicable round and its rules.

Express Entry proof of funds
IRCC generally requires proof of funds for the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program, but not for the Canadian Experience Class. An exception may also apply if you are authorized to work in Canada and have a valid job offer.
The IRCC table checked on September 25, 2026 lists CAD 15,263 for one person. The required amount depends on family size; include a spouse and dependent children even if they will not accompany you.
Funds must be legally available when you apply and when IRCC issues your permanent resident visa. Amounts can change, so confirm the official table before applying.
