Quebec Family Reunification: New 15,700-Application Cap for 2026-2028

Quebec opened a new intake period for family reunification undertaking applications from July 2, 2026 to June 30, 2028. Quebec’s Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI) will receive up to 15,700 applications during this period.

How the cap is allocated

• 13,300 applications for a spouse, common-law spouse or conjugal partner;
• 2,400 applications for a father, mother, grandparent or certain other relatives.

Once the maximum is reached in a sub-category, MIFI will no longer receive applications in that sub-category for the applicable period. Check the official availability and intake schedule before sending a file.

An intake schedule tied to the IRCC eligibility letter

Applications are received according to the date on the eligibility letter issued by IRCC. Sending an application before the period assigned to that letter can make it ineligible and result in its return. Sponsors should therefore use the current MIFI forms and follow the published schedule closely.

Applications that may be exempt from the cap

Some undertaking applications can be received at any time beyond the cap, including applications to sponsor a dependent child, a minor child to be adopted or certain orphaned minor children. Adding a child or spouse to a previous undertaking or application may also fall within an exception. Always confirm the exact conditions in MIFI’s instructions.

• Confirm the federal sponsorship stage with IRCC and keep the required eligibility letter or acknowledgement of receipt.
• Check your assigned period in Quebec’s intake schedule.
