What does an immigration consultant do?
A Canadian immigration consultant can assess a situation, explain options to verify and help prepare an application. Depending on the mandate and applicable authorizations, they may also communicate with authorities or represent a client in the permitted process.
Their assistance does not replace official criteria or the applicant’s responsibility to provide complete and accurate information. Good support helps a person understand requirements, documents and file-specific risks; it cannot influence a decision.
Who may act as an authorized paid representative?
In Canada, a paid immigration or citizenship consultant must be a member in good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants. Depending on their scope of practice, IRCC also recognizes lawyers who are members in good standing of a Canadian law society, Quebec notaries and authorized Ontario paralegals.
